Franklin County Judge Phillip Shepard has said no to the implementing of the new legislative districts and has extended the deadline for candidates that want to run this fall to Friday. Long time Republican Representative in the 36 District Lonnie Napier announced when the new districts were drawn that he would retire. Now, Napier says things could change. “Anything can happen in the next day or two, they may change it in court or somebody may bring a lawsuit.”
If the 36st District retains the part of Madison County that is there now Napier says he will reconsider his decision to retire. “Right now my district is back like it was. Yes, I’ll be thinking about trying to make up my mind. I’m not saying yes or no but I’ll be thinking about it.”
Napier represents the 36th District that covers Garrard and part of Madison County.
