Yesterday voters in the North-Richmond Saratoga precinct voted to support alcohol sales. Now businesses can apply for a liquor license.
The referendum was put into motion when the Madison County Clerk’s office certified a petition for alcohol sales submitted by the owner of the Shell Gas station at North Keeneland Drive and Lexington Road.
Around a thousand people are registered to vote in the Saratoga precinct, only 31 voted yesterday. In April of 2008, the precinct held a wet-dry vote. It was defeated then by a 23-15 vote.
Most of Richmond is now wet. The only remaining dry precinct is the Water Tower precinct, which runs through West Main St and Lexington Road from Aspen Avenue to Windsor Drive.
